About Me
I've been playing guitar for 30 years, mainly rock and pop, then as an acoustic singer-songwriter. Originally based in Cambridgeshire and then London, I was songwriter, singer and guitarist in Moreau's Island, a band that received Radio 1 play and national press exposure. More recently I've become interested in fingerstyle guitar and bluegrass mandolin and I'm currently playing American folk music in a trio called The Backyard Buskers. When I am not working, pairing socks, forcefeeding brocolli to my children or watching Mad Men I try to still write some songs and if you want to hear some of them please check out my MySpace page, although it's getting a bit out of date now!. I have been teaching in Sheffield now for 6 years and am also employed by the Sheffield Music Service to teach in schools, and so I am fully CRB checked.

The Lessons
My approach to the lessons is to get people up and running playing what they want to play as soon as possible. I can teach many different styles, from beginners classical, to acoustic fingerstyle, electric lead, blues, metal, country - you name it! My approach is song-based and I have a huge library of songs, solos etc, however it's totally up to you what you learn. If you want a more academic approach, you can take exams Grade 1-8 through me. I am proud to say that I have a 100% pass rate. Electric and bass guitar exams are provided by the Registry of Guitar Tutors and Rock School. The Registry of Guitar Tutors also now provide excellent Acoustic Guitar exams suitable for all ages. Classical exams are taken through Trinity College London. What I won't do is make you spend the lesson watching me play widdly widdly guitar solos while you sit there bored rigid.
